Can a staircase be a ramp for handicaped persons and families with strollers?
The geometry of the Laurin-stairs suggest so. The sine curve forms tangents to the lower and upper plane of the stairs. By adding rails for Wheelchairs a ramp is formed, making for a comfortable wheelchair-based or stroller-based transition from the urban-floor to the main entrance and ticket counter of the museum. The dimensions of the rails allows for multiple types of wheelchairs to access them and the spacing between the rails allows a second party to push the Wheelchair or Stroller up the flight of stairs.
